THIS year is 50 years since the iconic three-day rock concert Woodstock – and South Hill Park in Bracknell will be marking the momentous occasion with a special performance.

The Woodstock Festival of 1969 is widely regarded as a pivotal moment in music history, with more than 400,000 people descending on a New York dairy farm in August that year to watch 32 acts perform.

The likes of Santana, The Who, Janis Joplin, Jefferson Airplane, Jimi Hendrix and Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young took to the stage – and the epic event secured its place in pop culture history.

Fifty years on, and South Hill Park is marking the momentous anniversary by playing host to The Cream of Hendrix – a tribute band oozing the authenticity of musicians well versed in the music of Jimi Hendrix and Cream.

Evoking the spirit of the era through well-known songs by Jimi Hendrix and British rock band Cream including All Along the Watchtower, Purple Haze, Voodoo Chile and Hey Joe, the band will play a gig in the Cellar Bar on August 22 from 8pm.

The band is made up of Steve and Gary Summers and Keith Boyce.

Steve, on guitar and vocals, took his original inspiration as a musician from the music played by Cream and Jimi Hendrix.

A former session guitarist, and sometime music producer, he currently leads his own band, The Steve Summers Band, playing his original compositions.

Gary, on bass and vocals, took up the guitar at age 11 and has played all over the world.

Meanwhile Keith’s musical CV reads like a who’s who of rock.

Some of the people he’s worked with over the years include, The Heavy Metal Kids, Savoy Brown, Long John Baldry, and Bram Tchaikovsky.

Keith has also jammed with Steve Marriott, Ronnie Lane and Ian McLagan, also Rory Gallagher.
