LIVE UPDATES: All the latest news as Reading building site collapses.

THE building that collapsed this morning was being demolished to make way for the Station Hill development, with 538 homes planned.

Two 12-storey buildings are planned on the site, after the demolition.

McGee, the demolition contractors, have been approached for comment. A spokesman said a statement will be released shortly.

The Station Hill site is 2.56 hectares and between Garrard Street, by Reading Station, and Friar Street.

The site owners, Lincoln MGT have been approached for comment. They said someone is en route to the scene now, and will provide updates later.

They expect to finish the homes by the end of 2022.
