THE Reading Driving Test Centre is due to close next year, it has emerged.

The centre, on Elgar Road, is set to close on May 31, 2020 as the lease on the site will not be renewed.

The Driving and Vehicle Standards Agency, DVSA, explained they are currently looking for an alternative site.

A DVSA spokesperson said: “DVSAs priority is to help everyone through a lifetime of safe driving.

“We have been given notice to leave Reading driving test centre in May 2020.

“We are committed to providing Reading with a driving test centre and are looking for alternative locations.

“Testing will continue at the present site until May 31, 2020.”

The current centre gives students the opportunity to practice key driving skills such as manoeuvres in nearby car parks.

It also has the advantage of being close to various A-roads, terraced streets and suburban areas.

The move means that students will need to take their test elsewhere, having accustomed to the Reading area.
