A READING shopping centre is set to welcome the team from Berkshire Mela to help them track down Reading's most talented performers.

Broad Street Mall's Central Square will form the backdrop to a series of auditions and entertainment as part of the Mela Talent Quest, which will search for people to take to the stage at Palmer Park on August 10.

The event will take place on Saturday, July 20 from 11am – 6pm.

They are on the lookout for Reading's best musicians, magicians, comedians and dancers to entertain the crowds.

Customers interested in auditioning can pre-register by emailing info@berkshiremela.co.uk, or just turn up on the day.

They will also be enjoying a day of live music and dance with Munde Punjab De and singing duo, Adil Hashmi and Sib - with more to be announced.

There will be free balloons, sweets, caricatures and henna art, as well as the chance for visitors to try some Mela inspired food – all in Central Square.

The Mela itself is the first of its kind at Palmer Park.

It is planned to be an exciting, colourful summer outdoor event, with an emphasis on cultural and artistic diversity.

Six lucky people will be chosen from the Talent Quest ‘auditions’ to perform on stage at the main Mela event, with one lucky winner getting the chance to perform with H-Dhami.

Customers are invited to come down to Broad St. Mall on July 20 to get a taste of what's to come.

Nicola Williamson, centre manager at Broad St. Mall, said: "We're really looking forward to welcoming the team from Berkshire Mela to the centre to see what talent they uncover in the heart of Reading.

"It's sure to be a lively day with lots of fun and entertainment for all the family."
