THIS week, our regular trip down memory lane takes us to the junction where Station Road and Friar Street meet.

We think the original photograph was taken in the seventies, but if you think differently please let us know.

Where Kogans the tailors used to stand is Pitcher and Piano, a restaurant and bar located next to Q Club.

Across the street is a phone box, which no longer stands today. It’s thought that there were 92,000 of them in Britain at their peak in 1992 but today there is less than half the number.

Every week the team at The Reading Chronicle pores through the archives to find these hidden gems. We would like to hear your memories of the local area and any thoughts you may have on the changes that have occurred. Get in touch with us by emailing andrew.colley@london.newsquest.co.uk or write to Reading Chronicle, Bowman House, 2-10 Bridge Street, Reading, RG12LU.

We’re on the lookout for more historic images from the area. Send your pictures and suggestions for our team to re-photograph.
