A FUN, family vintage fete raised over £1000 for a young boy’s cancer treatment last weekend (Sunday July 7).

The event, which took place on Memorial Avenue in Shiplake Cross, hoped to raise money for 12-year-old Charlie Ilsley from Emmer Green.

Charlie, who took part in Channel 4’s Stand Up To Cancer Campaign last year, has recently been cleared of cancer after undergoing treatment for brain and secondary spinal cancer in Turkey, which cost more than £81,000.

With this treatment now finished and paid for, his family need to raise a further £47,000 for Immunotherapy which will teach Charlie’s immune system to recognise cancer cells and prevent it from returning.

Charlie’s mother, Toni, explained “he has been through so much” and this treatment will be their insurance policy to make sure it doesn’t return.

To fundraise, she organised Charlie’s Vintage Fete which saw an array of entertainment throughout the day.

There was live music from vintage singer Helen Muggeridge and Reading artist Steve Morano.

As well as live performances, there was lots of fun for all ages, including two bouncy castles, a Nerf shootout stand, 20 stall holders, glitter and face paint artists, a raffle, fortune teller, body piercing, jewellery and more.

There was also a vintage horse box selling food and four parrots that visitors could pet.

Toni said: “Lots of people turned up.

“It was brilliant.”

Others have joined in with the fundraising including Jim Duncan who has written a song for Charlie, which is now available to buy with all proceedings going to the family.

Charlie was at the event selling the CD.

Toni added: “He loved it.”

He woke up the next day asking “Mum can we do it again?”
