A Caversham nursery has become the first in Berkshire to receive a prestigious award from Unicef.

The Rocking Horse Montessori Nursery School received the ‘Rights Respecting School – Silver award’ from the international charity.

The award recognises schools that show commitment to promoting and realising children’s rights and encourage adults and children to respect the rights of others in school.

Headteacher Mrs Vivien Vincent said: “We are extremely proud to have been awarded this prestigious Silver award by Unicef UK, in recognition of our continued work and commitment to teaching the children about their Human Rights.

“Our Montessori Nursery school is a safe and inspiring place to learn, where children are respected, their talents are nurtured, and they are able to thrive.

“We have worked hard to embed the Rights Respecting Schools values into our daily school life, to give our children the best chance to lead happy, healthy lives and to be responsible, active citizens.”

The Rocking Horse Montessori Nursery School has been educating the children of Caversham for over 30 years.

They started a partnership with Unicef in 2014 and received its Bronze Award status in 2017.
