A school in Newbury has won an award after being the first in the county to complete a building scheme project.

Pupils at St Gabriel’s became the first in the county to complete David Wilson Homes’ Building Buddies assignment and were awarded with a trophy.

The school’s Year 6 class was recruited by the homebuilder back in September to be part of the scheme where students learned about the construction process.

There were four tasks to complete, covering planning and land, sales and marketing, technical and design and construction.

The children were visited by Danica Trim, Sales Office Manager at David Wilson Homes Southern, who presented St Gabriel’s with their Building Buddies Award.

Danica said: “Having visited St Gabriel’s before each task in the Building Buddies Award, it’s been wonderful to see the pupils’ knowledge of the construction industry grow with every activity.”

Furthering the writing and artistic abilities of the pupils, the Building Buddies Award has enabled those taking part to name and promote their own development, whilst highlighting site safety and wildlife-friendly features considered at each David Wilson Homes development.

Peter Dove, Head of the Junior School at St Gabriel’s, said: “The Building Buddies projects have really engaged our pupils and provided them with knowledge and skills to complement their curriculum learning.

“The activities have also been great fun.”
