A JEWELLERY shop in Reading has won a coveted UK Jewellery Award.

Jacobs the Jewellers won the award for ‘Best retail customer event of the year’ for its Seventy for Seventy fundraising campaign in 2018.

The campaign took place on the jewellers 70th anniversary year and raised funds for a new surface guided radiotherapy machine at the Royal Berkshire Hospital’s Berkshire Cancer Centre.

From raffles to gala black-tie evenings, parachute jumps to soapbox derbies, the full year finished with a cheque presentation of over £93,500 to the well deserving NHS Trust, which was also celebrating 70 years since the NHS’s foundation.

The results of the UK Jewellery Awards 2019 were revealed on July 3 at the Artillery Gardens, London, and were presented by TV’s Larry Lamb and sponsor Carol Sinfield from jewellery brand, Shaun Leane.

Adam, Ian and Adrienne Jacobs, partners in the trusted local business, said: “We were genuinely surprised and delighted when our name was read out.

“The fundraising was a lot of work though totally worth it – to have national recognition of our efforts is a really nice end to this chapter of our shop’s ongoing story.

“Our team were fantastic in getting involved, as were our customers and friends who really took Seventy for Seventy to their hearts.

“Our thanks to all of them for their contributions.”
