TWO contractors working for Volker Highways were 'seriously injured' in an accident on the A329M last month.

Health and safety experts are working with police over the crash, which took place on June 21 after an Iveco Daily pick-up was in a collision with a Ford Transit Highways Maintenance van, which was stationary on side of the road, at around 12.15pm today (June 21).

The driver of the Iveco pick-up sustained minor injuries and did not require hospital treatment.

The two contractors were seriously injured in the crash.

In a joint statement, Wokingham Borough Council and VolkerHighways said: “Our thoughts remain with those affected by this incident, during their period of recovery.

"It is important for us to protect the privacy of those involved and as such, we are unable to comment further at this time."

They were taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital for treatment and are still recovering.

The northbound carriageway of the A329M between Winnersh and Reading was closed for more than six hours on the day.

Police are continuing to investigate the incident.

A 30-year-old man from Reading was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and drug driving and has since been released under investigation.
