READING Buses' annual family fun day is returning this week (Sunday, June 30) and organisers are hoping it will be another record-breaking occasion.

The ever-popular Open Day takes place each summer, when Reading Buses open the doors at their Great Knollys Street depot.

This year’s event is in support of Reading Buses’ Charity of the Year Cancer Research Kids and Teens.

Organisers are hoping to match or beat last year's £9,000, raised on a scorching day when temperatures reached nearly 30C.

The current forecast for Sunday. June 30 is a pleasant 22C with sunny intervals.

Entry is free and there will be all the popular attractions, including rides through the bus wash, open top rides, behind-the-scenes tours of the control room, workshop and tech lab, a variety of stalls, face painting, sports activities and food and drink.

A free shuttle service will operate from the town centre to Great Knollys Street, starting at 10.40am.

Reading Buses chief executive, Robert Williams, said: "We are always excited to open our doors to the people of Reading - and beyond - and show them what we do.

"The day is always very popular and we cater for families, enthusiasts or just people who want to see what a bus company actually does.

"We are grateful to our volunteers on the day who are formed by our employees and friends of the company – from individuals to a large contingent from the Forgotten British Gurkha who have supported us tirelessly over the last few years.

"We are also massively grateful to our sponsors, currently Ticketer, Synectics and Optare, who have all given generously to help pay for some of the costs on the day, allowing us to give more money to our charity."

"If any local businesses would like to help sponsor the day, they can email our customer services team customerservices@reading-buses.co.uk who will pass their details on to the relevant member of our team to run through the options of sponsorship."
