Police are appealing for witnesses following the serious crash on the A329 between Winnersh and Reading.

A 30-year-old man from Reading has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and drug driving.

He is currently in police custody.

An Iveco Daily pick-up was in a collision with a Ford Transit Highways Maintenance van, which was stationary on side of the road, at around 12.15pm today (June 21).

The driver of the Iveco pick-up sustained minor injuries and did not require hospital treatment.

The driver of the Ford Transit Highways Maintenance van was taken to the Royal Berkshire Hospital with minor injuries and remains there at this time.

Two pedestrians were seriously injured in the collision.

They have been taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital for treatment and remain there at this time.

Their next of kin have been informed.

The northbound carriageway of the A329 is currently closed between Winnersh and Reading, and is expected to remain closed for a number of hours for an investigation and vehicle recovery.

Diversions are in place.

Investigating officer, PC James Baker of the Thames Valley Police Roads Policing Unit said: "This is a serious collision and we are in the early stages of an investigation to establish what has happened.

"We would like to speak to anyone who witnessed this incident or saw either of these vehicles before the collision.

"We would also like drivers in the area at this time to check any dash-cam footage which could help with the investigation.
