Reading’s derelict gas holder could be replaced with 130 homes under new plans submitted to the council.
Danescroft (Kenavon Drive Project Management) LLP has submitted the plans which aim to create a new ‘gateway’ to the town at the east Reading landmark on Alexander Turner Close.
The gas holder will be demolished if the application is backed by Reading Borough Council.
Danescroft investigated keeping the gas holder, but tests revealed the land around it is contaminated.
The proposal is for three buildings ranging from two to nine storeys in height.
Previous proposals had included a range going up to 11 storeys, but the council advised against an application of such height.
The site is currently operated by SGN as part of its gas infrastructure, but the gas holder has been taken out of service and is no longer in use.
127 car parking spaces are planned for the development.
