THERE is ballet, baroque and contemporary dance inside South Hill Park Arts Centre and theatre this June. From 17th century style English country dance, a family friendly ballet telling the story of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet and an edgy, explosive modern piece from one of the most renowned dance companies – there is something for everyone!

A witty retelling of the Pygmalion story with elegant Baroque dance, gorgeous period costumes and on-stage music by Rameau, Lully, Arne and Handel. The Weaver Ensemble proudly present The Loves of Pygmalion or The Fairest Lady (Thu 6 Jun, 7.30pm). The Weaver Ensemble delighted audiences with The Loves of Mars and Venus about the birth of baroque ballet. Now back with this original work – be transported to the 18th century for a joyous evening.

One of the most renowned dance companies, Chrysalis London return to the Wilde Theatre stage this June with the world premiere of CANDY (Wednesday, June 19, 7.45pm), an exciting mixed bill performed in the company’s explosive style. Featuring new works by Artistic Director Jodie Blemings, choreographer Iona Brie and world-renowned choreographer Kenrick ‘H2O’ Sandy MBE, in a highly anticipated collaboration that sees 14 extraordinary dancers balance dynamism with artistry to deliver a ground-breaking performance. This performance will feature an opening piece by The Berkshire County Dance Company Youth choreographed by Blemings plus a post-show discussion.

Critics’ Circle Award winning company, Ballet Cymru, present an extraordinary adaptation of Shakespeare’s masterpiece Romeo and Juliet. Fighting, intense passion, duets and universal themes echo through dramatic and lyrical choreography in Romeo a Juliet (Sun 16 Jun, 5pm). Exquisite costumes and extraordinary video projections create a world of danger and excitement where two young lovers are caught in an age old feud.
