READERS have had their say after hearing the news that Jamie Oliver's restaurant chain was going into administration.

More than 1,000 jobs are thought to be at risk, as Jamie's Italian prepares to close restaurants across the country.

The Reading branch closed last summer after the chain suffered financial difficulties.

Jamie's Italian at The Oracle was first announced in 2009 and took over the former Chilis eatery.

While some people were sad to see the demise of the chain, others said the 'overpriced' food made it inevitable.

On our Facebook page, Danny D'Arcy said: "He’s a hard working likeable bloke, but his food was just an expensive joke.

"No need to feel sorry for him, only his ex-employees and suppliers, who’ve all lost out financially. He’s made his millions.

"It was inevitable selling his name for franchises. Some diners duped into thinking each one was his own personal restaurant, diners paying for his name.

"Too long queues, too long to wait for dire overpriced food."

This view was shared by Henry Thompson, who said he went when it first opened after receiving some vouchers.

He added: "Iffy service and food overpriced. My own spaghetti bolognese is 100 per cent better!"

And, in response to our poll, it would seem this view was shared by the overwhelming majority of our readers.

In fact, one third of people who voted said they went to the Reading restaurant once and never came back.

Just seven per cent said they went all the time and were sad to see it close.

Mr Oliver said: "I am deeply saddened by this outcome and would like to thank all of the staff and our suppliers who have put their hearts and souls into this business for over a decade. I appreciate how difficult this is for everyone affected.

"I would also like to thank all the customers who have enjoyed and supported us over the last decade, it's been a real pleasure serving you.

"We launched Jamie's Italian in 2008 with the intention of positively disrupting mid-market dining in the UK high street, with great value and much higher quality ingredients, best-in-class animal welfare standards and an amazing team who shared my passion for great food and service. And we did exactly that."
