A MAN from Tilehurst has been sentenced for drug and driving offences.

Shamrez Akhtar, 23, of The Meadway, was sentenced to one year and four months’ imprisonment after pleading guilty to one count of possession with intent to supply a class B drug and one count of dangerous driving at Reading Crown Court on Wednesday, May 8.

Akhtar was also disqualified from driving for two years and eight months.

The sentencing is in relation to an incident on March 14 2019, in which Akhtar failed to stop for police.

Following a pursuit, he was detained by officers and was found to be in possession of a large quantity of cannabis.

Akhtar was charged on the same day.

Investigating officer, PC Katie Poole, based at Reading police station said: "Akhtar's actions were dangerous and reckless.

"I hope this sentence shows that Thames Valley Police take these offences seriously.
