A MAN who 'viciously' assaulted a woman in her fifties with a meat cleaver has been convicted of GBH and found not guilty of attempted murder.
Luke Mackrory, 27, of Lockside Court, Aldermaston was convicted of one count of GBH after being found guilty by a majority jury following a trial at Reading Crown Court which lasted eight days and concluded on Thursday (May 2).
He was found not guilty of attempted murder.
Mackrory also pleaded guilty to possession of a bladed article and threatening with a bladed article.
At around 4.20pm on 31 October 2018, Mackrory viciously assaulted the woman, leaving her with injuries to her head, including lacerations and a fracture to her skull.
She also received bruising to her body.
The victim received extensive hospital treatment and continues to recover from her substantial injuries.
Mackrory will be sentenced on June 13 at Reading Crown Court.
Investigating officer Amy-Jane Rogers, of Force CID based at Reading police station, said: "I would like to thank the victim in this case for her bravery throughout the investigation and trial.
"This was a serious assault which left the victim with very nasty injuries.
"Incidents of this nature are taken very seriously by Thames Valley Police and are thoroughly investigated."
