CONTEMPORARY Art Fairs are coming to Newbury Racecourse this weekend (May 11 and 12).

The 'inspiring' art experience is open to all, showcasing 5,000 artworks from 160 of the very best contemporary artists alongside innovative workshops run by West Berkshire's The Base, intriguing live artist demos, free art auction valuations by TV expert and Bargain Hunt regular, Thomas Forrester, a delicious café and bar, wine tasting and so much more.

From first time buyers and homeowners with an empty wall or two, to art lovers and discerning collectors all seeking that elusive 'wow' factor, there will be something to suit every taste and spend.

The art fairs also provide an invaluable opportunity for visitors to mingle face-to-face with the artists themselves and represents an open doorway into the art of tomorrow.

With emerging artists eager for recognition, there's every chance of snapping up an unexpected bargain.

An ongoing tradition of each contemporary art fair event sees every exhibitor create an original, collectible 8 inch square canvas in their own unique style, all of which are displayed and sold during the Art Fair to raise funds for The Prince’s Trust, to date raising more than £65,000.

Contemporary art fairs is the creation of directors Deborah James and Sarah McAllister, who many years ago identified a need for an informal, accessible way for established and emerging artists to showcase their work and skills to a wider audience.

Sarah said: "We wanted to bring together artists and galleries from across the UK and Europe under one roof to give art lovers the opportunity to browse and immerse themselves in everything contemporary art has to offer, whether in the home or work environment.

"There are so many different styles to peruse, with everything from limited edition prints to the more expensive original pieces, as well as every opportunity to commission your very own tailored artwork.

"Art is for one and all, and to bring it together alongside real, live interaction with the artists themselves makes the magic of art and creativity wonderfully accessible to everyone."

Deborah said: "Having run three hugely popular contemporary art fairs each year in Surrey, Windsor and Berkshire over the last few years, Newbury is a new venue for us and we're excited to be increasing our reach into new areas.

"We urge everyone to come along and make the most of having the very best in contemporary art and creativity on their doorstep – as well as an amazing atmosphere and a fabulous mix of activities."

With a Private View evening on Friday May 10 from 6-9pm, incorporating the official opening of the fair by Sir John Madejski OBE DL, there is a chance to appreciate fine art and fine wine as well as room to engage with other art enthusiasts.
