AN AMBITIOUS man from Reading will be biking 430km from Tilehurst to Cornwall in aid of Malaria No More UK.

Daniel Barter, who suffers with Crohn's disease, will be taking on the challenge by himself on July 27, supporting the charity's #EndMalaria campaign.

He hopes to hit his target of £500 for World Malaria Day on Thursday, April 25.

Leaving at 3am from Tilehurst, and with a 12-hour break at Okehampton, Mr Barter plans to arrive at his parents' home in Hayle on July 28.

He will be departing from Reading with the support from his family, wife Sally Barter and sons, Freddie and Toby.

Because Mr Barter has Crohn's disease, he has an ileostomy bag attached to him 24 hours a day.

The illness also means that he is vulnerable to dehydration on a bike ride of this length and duration.

The bike route has been planned for a road bike with input from the Reading Cycling Club, which has also given dietary, equipment and training input to support Mr Barter with this challenge.

The money raised will go towards Malaria treatments and Malaria nets all over the world.

Speaking to Mr Barter, Matthew Creasey from Malaria No More UK, said: "Thank you so much for taking on this huge challenge to help us end Malaria within our lifetimes.

"This looks like a fantastic challenge, both a lot of fun, and a tough ride.

"Your target is a fantastic amount that will go towards saving lives from this preventable and treatable disease."

This will be the first time Mr Barter has done a journey of this length.

He said: "I want to show people how many lives can be saved with simple fundraising."

The fundraising target will provide 100 malaria nets for 200 people, or 500 malaria treatments.

Mr Barter is planning his cycle route, which can all be found on Strava via his fundraising page.
