LIFE certainly has its ups and down - but nobody knows that better than these world record hungry men.

Fifty years ago, Twyford Youth Club members David Turner and David Sutch remained on a see-saw - without stopping - for 80 hours.

On Tuesday, Richard March and Michael Jones completed the exhausting challenge and successfully beat the old record.

Mr March, from Sandhurst and Mr Jones, from Ruscombe, climbed off the giant see-saw having bounced continuously up and down for 80 hours, 10 minutes and six seconds, beating the existing record by just over ten minutes.

In the process they bounced up and down 78,871 times.

Mr March said: “It was not as bad as I thought although I am very tired.

“I am amazed at the interest there has been in our attempt. It has had a global reach. A friend of mine told me he had seen it on television in Majorca.”

The gruelling attempt saw the two men eat, sleep and even go to the toilet, all on the giant see-saw.

The device featured seats from Mr Turner’s car, in an effort to give the two men as much comfort as possible.

Their successful attempt started on April 13 and throughout the following days a constant stream of residents visited.

Mr Turner, the father-in-law of Mr Jones, masterminded this latest record-breaking success in order to raise money for a newly-established charity - Twyford Community Hub - which plans to turn the former school into a library.

He spent several months constructing the see-saw from old timber and a trampoline.

Mr Jones added: “I have been overwhelmed by the interest shown within our community.

“The lack of sleep has been the toughest part, but now I can go home and be with the family.”
