THE latest person to be appointed as the High Sheriff of Berkshire says it is a "huge honour" to have been given the opportunity.
Lucy Zeal, who lives in Twyford, was sworn in following an official ceremony at Reading Crown Court.
She follows in the footsteps of her parents, who have both previously held the post of High Sheriff.
The role is the oldest Royal appointment and the High Sheriff is responsible for ceremonial duties, as well as promoting voluntary work within the community they oversee.
She said: “I am looking forward to giving my support to all those involved with administering justice, law and order in our county as well as the emergency services.
"This appointment is a wonderful opportunity to recognise the charity and voluntary work that is undertaken by so many people, which makes such a difference.”
The modern day High Sheriff differs significantly to ancient ancestors, although duties are equally important.
It is an independent and non-political position, which involves attending Royal visits.
