A WOODLEY man has paid tribute to his late mother by placing a special bench and planting a tree close to where she lived.

Graham Sawyer lost his mother Janet Kay Sawyer last year.

He wanted to honour her memory ahead of Mother's Day.

Graham said: "She was well-known in the area, she worked as a head cook of three schools in Woodley.

"She was also a head cook of a community care home later on.

"We all lived and grew up in Woodley but she ended up living in Sonning towards the end of her life, which is where we have placed the bench.

"She did quite a lot for the area and people knew her.

"That's why we received permission for this tree and the bench.

"This is the last thing I can do for her as Mother's Day comes up."

The tree was planted last year in Woodford Park, Woodley, by Janet's four children: Colin Sawyer, Julie Lovejoy, Graham and Alison Strudy.

Janet, 78, was born in 1940 and lived in Sonning until her death last year.
