RESIDENTS at Sunrise of Sonning care facility took part in the annual Taste of Sunrise campaign last week.

Taking place from March 17 - 24, the week celebrates fine food and healthy eating, highlighting the importance of nutritious food for older people.

On March 7, the community welcomed local speech and language therapist Hilary Dawes, as well as Sunrise of Sonning's very own link nurse Siegfreid Torejas, who delivered an informative talk on caring for people with dysphagia (difficulties with swallowing).

There was also a live demonstration of the varying stages of food preparation for people living with the condition and attendees were able to ask questions.

The community's very own chef, Manu Bustara, gave a talk on March 20 about his native Spanish cuisine.

He enlightened all with his knowledge and presented on foods from the different regions, creating a special dish called 'Quesada' from Santander, an area of northern Spain where he grew up.

Carmela Magbitang, general manager at Sunrise of Sonning, said: "Our dining team work hard to ensure that residents receive exquisite food - whatever their dietary requirements.

"Mealtimes are a key part of the day and are proud of the whole team.

"Taste of Sunrise is a great way to celebrate this and raise awareness of the importance of healthy eating and the nutritional needs of older people."
