THREE Reading schools have received a generous donation to help keep children safe during darker evenings.

Housebuilding company Taylor Wimpey West London provided 108 head torches to Lambs Lane Primary School in Spencers Wood, The Vine Christian School in Three Mile Cross and Shinfield St Mary’s Church of England Junior School.

The torches are helping the children to be seen by drivers when out and about in the local community, and allows they to stay safe to and from their walk to school and after school clubs.

Headmistress at The Vine Christian School, Eve Strike, said: "The safety of our children is one of our utmost priorities so we'd like to say a huge thank you to Taylor Wimpey for the 28 head torches we have received.

"We encourage our parents and children to be active in the community when possible and with these head torches, children will be safer during the evenings."

Nikki Gibson, sales and marketing director for Taylor Wimpey West London, said: "We're proud to donate these much needed head torches to each of the schools as we know they've already gone a long way in helping the children stay safe when the evenings were drawing in during the darker months.

"It means a great deal to us that we can provide equipment that can help to create a safer community and we look forward to seeing the children making use of the head torches for many years to come."
