CAMPAIGNERS staged a 'die-in' in the town centre recently after councillors agreed to declare a climate emergency.

Members of Extinction Rebellion Reading (XRR) commended Reading Borough Council's decision to take the matter seriously.

However, the campaign group continue to apply pressure at a national level, saying positive steps close to home are not enough.

Activist Roberto Hogg said: “I felt powerful and vulnerable at the same time. It was scary lying on the street with no view of what was going on around me, but I also felt empowered and supported as a member of XRR.

"We were there to highlight the climate emergency to the people of Reading. While it can be frustrating to acknowledge that people in power generally don’t acknowledge the climate crisis, participating in these demonstrations helps raise awareness and gives people the power and inspiration to act.”
