Reading Rotary Club was "honoured" to welcome the Mayor of Reading, councillor Debs Edwards, as a guest to the club.
The Mayor had acted as a starter in the December Santa Run, which was the fourth to be organised by the club, and visited the members on February 19.
Following the fundraising, £5,000 will be given to both Footsteps and Macmillan, with further sums available for distribution to other local charities.
As a separate project, Reading Rotary Club has in the last few weeks completed the design, construction and fitting out of a house to accommodate 12 families on behalf of Berkshire Women’s Aid, which is also one of the Mayor’s chosen charities.
Mrs Edwards then ran through the most memorable of her 350 engagements to date.
The club meets every Tuesday at Pepe Sale Restaurant in central Reading.
