MIXED Morris dancing team invite members of the public to join in with their 30th birthday extravaganza.

The Hurst Morris People are encouraging residents to attend the barn dance on Sunday, March 2 as part of celebrations.

The group are known for being a mixed dance group, member of the group Tim is a science teacher in Wokingham.

He said: “We decided to start a mixed team so we could dance together.

“There were few mixed teams at the time. We wanted to create something new and open in outlook. All this was considered quite outrageous.

"We were criticised for starting a mixed team. Despite the opposition we went ahead."

The group, which started with 7 members now consists of 24 dancers. One of their first dances was performed at the The Colleton School, Twyford.

Karen Ricketts, Squire from the Hurst Village Hall, added: “We’re delighted to carry on The Hurst Morris Peoples great tradition and welcome everyone to our barn dance and our Maypole and Morris Day.”

The barn dance will be held at the Hurst Village Hall.
