THE SISTER of a murder victim spoke of her family's immense suffering – before the man responsible was jailed for life.

Liam Turner, of Colliers Way, Reading, faced an 11-day trial at Reading Crown Court over the murder of Miroslaw Januszkiewicz.

Known as Mirek – the victim was walking alone on London Road, Bracknell, on April 10 when he was beaten and left for dead in a pool of blood.

He stamped on the victim's head during what the judge described as a 'random and vicious' attack.

Januszkiewicz, was found an hour later and rushed to hospital, but died the next day as a result of his 'catastrophic' injuries.

Turner, 28, was given a life sentence at the same court on February 12.

A victim impact statement from the victim's sister, Elzbieta Kaczmarek, described the family's grief.

“I have been asked to describe how Mirek's death has affected me and it is difficult to find the words.

Reading Chronicle:

“My heart is bleeding just thinking about what happened. He came to the UK to better his life; not to get killed.

“His death and the way he was killed has affected me and my family very much. We should have been celebrating with him. Instead, it was so sad for all of us because Mirek was not there.

“We had to experience our first Christmas and New Year without Marek. My brother was killed in April 2018 and the trial is still going on. I have not been able to move on from the death of my brother with this still hanging over us.

“I was scared to go out at night after what happened to him. I am constantly reminded of where he was killed at the bus stop, which is near my house.

“Mirek would not hurt anyone. He [Turner] took my brother’s life and my family’s pain is still unbearable. He has ruined so many other lives as well and I hope he is punished accordingly for what he has done.”

Ms Kaczmarek explained in her statement that the family struggled to send his body back to Poland and relied on the generosity of the public through a fundraising campaign.

Turner was convicted by a unanimous jury the day before his sentence.
