A THUG who used a hammer to attack his victim has been sentenced to more than five years in prison.

Jamie Jordan, of Hexham Road, Reading, admitted to grievous bodily harm with intent at Reading Crown Court.

The 27-year-old used a claw hammer to attack a man in his 20s in Whitley last year.

The man suffered a fractured arm and required surgery for further injuries to his arm.

The incident took place on Staverton Road at around 1.30pm on November 22 and Jordan was charged three days later.

He was sentenced at Reading Crown Court on January 30 to five years and three months’ imprisonment.

Police constable Sharon Giddens, based at Reading, said: “This was a vicious and unprovoked attack resulting in serious injuries for the victim.

“Thanks to a quick police response and robust investigation, the offender has pleaded guilty to these offences.

“I would like to reassure the public that this was an isolated incident.

“Thames Valley Police is focused on working with our communities and partners to keep people safe from harm.

“I would like to take this opportunity to praise the victim and his family for their bravery throughout this process.”
