A YOUNG woman was left with hand and facial injuries after she was mugged while walking through a park.

The 21-year-old victim was attacked in the early hours of January 26 in Victoria Park in Newbury.

She was approached by two men and one of them pushed her to the ground, demanding she hand over her rucksack.

The man pulled the Adidas bag away from her, which contained a number of valuable items.

The duo ran away from the scene after stealing her Burberry purse, bankcards and items of clothing.

Police have appealed for witnesses to come forward following two arrests.

A 34-year-old man from Basingstoke and a another, 26, of no fixed abode, were arrested on January 26 on suspicion of robbery.

They have been released on police bail until February 16.

She sustained a cut to the left side of her face and another cut to her hand, although she did not require hospital treatment.

Detective constable Tara Hamilton, of the Investigation Hub based at Newbury, said: “I am appealing to anybody who believes that they witnessed this robbery to contact officers.”
