Tiny knitted hats are helping to keep premature babies a little warmer at Royal Berkshire Hospital.

More than 100 have been made and given to the Buscot Special Care Baby Unit to keep the babies warm.

The 120 hats were created by a group at Optalis' Windsor Day Centre, and support worker Celia Hone presented them to the ward.

Celia has a personal connection with the ward through her grandson Rocky, who 14 years ago was born prematurely at 33 weeks and weighed just two pounds. He was cared for in the Buscot Ward and also joined his grandmother there on January 4 to deliver hats, along with his mother Grace.

"We wanted to give something back to the ward," Grace said.

"We were so grateful for how the nurses looked after us at such a traumatic time.

"I vividly remember how tiny Rocky was and how hard it was to find him clothes to fit him. It's lovely to be able to donate more hats to enable babies to keep cosy."
