A NEW affordable housing development has opened in Earley following a ceremony, attended by the Mayor of Wokingham Borough.

Councillor John Kaiser joined other guests at the development off Culver Lane for the unveiling of Sutton Court.

The project, which was completed back in December by Southern Housing, consists of 20 new dwellings.

Cllr Kaiser said: “I was delighted to open this new development, which brings 20 new affordable homes to Wokingham Borough.

"This is more than just bricks and mortar; this site will provide homes and futures to those 20 families.

"Ensuring there are enough affordable homes in the Borough for those who need them most is key, and we are continuing to work hard to achieve this.”

The development features four homes designated for social rent and 16 for shared ownership.

There is a mixture of detached and semi-detached two, three and four bed properties.

The event was marked with a tree planting onsite and speeches from the mayor and Southern Housing Group’s group development director Oliver Boundy.

Mr Boundy added: “After several years of hard work and investment into the Sutton Court development, I am proud that we have been able to provide these quality detached and semi-detached homes that are well suited to the needs of the local community.

"As a housing association, we exist to provide truly affordable homes for people in housing need and Sutton Court is part of our commitment to improving the lives of our residents and their communities.”

These new homes replace a previous development of two blocks of one bedroom and bedsit properties, which were demolished back in December 2014.
