COMMUNITY groups in Bracknell and Wokingham will share a funding boost after the Co-op welcomes new beneficiaries.

A total of 12 charities and good causes are set to benefit from the Co-op gaining new beneficiaries to its Local Community Fund.

Crowthorne Carnival, Crowthorne Hopezone and Sandhurst Day Centre are amongst those to receive the funding, they will be given £1,000 at the end of this year.

Rebecca Birkbeck, director of community engagement at the Co-op, said: “The more people shop, the more we share, and the more impact we can have in communities

“People can get involved by becoming a member, swiping their card, and choosing the cause they want to support.

“By choosing their local cause, our members are telling us what really matters in their communities.”

Members of the Local Community Fund can decide how the money is allocated and what organisations they want to support.

Ms Birkbeck added: “Last year we invested £19 million in over 4,000 groups UK-wide, supporting a wide range of initiatives from village halls and community spaces to skills initiatives and neighbourhood watch schemes.

“All of which are helping to make communities across the UK safer, happier, and healthier places to live.”

Research from the Charity Commission showed that 40 per cent of charities survive on an income of less than £10,000.

The Co-op hope their members will be able to have a positive impact on charities in local communities.

Last year, ten groups in Bracknell and Wokingham shared £53,000, for more information on the funding visit: https://causes.coop.co.uk/.
