A SUBSTANTIAL investment has seen a wide range of improvements delivered to a sports hub in East Reading.

Palmer Park Gym has benefitted from a £35,000 project, following previous works to provide updated facilities.

Three artificial pitches were refurbished and reopened at Palmer Park in September.

Councillor Graeme Hoskin, lead member for Sport, said: “The revamped gym is looking fantastic.

"We want residents of all ages to benefit from using our sports facilities and I hope this will encourage many more to do so.

"Anyone making a New Year’s resolution to get fit will appreciate the great new equipment available.

“The park has also benefited from a significant investment in its artificial turf pitches, which are looking great."

The work is part of a wider programme, which will see £786,000 spent across Reading's parks and other areas.

The majority of projects will be funded by contributions made by developers.

Cllr Hoskin added: "This is part of a larger investment across Reading’s parks, running until 2020.

"I’m delighted we are in a position to deliver such an extensive plan of improvements across Reading’s green spaces, with some great work also recently completed at Prospect and Cintra parks.

“Where we live, and the quality of our immediate environment has a huge impact on our quality of life and wellbeing. This level of investment shows we are committed to keeping the town clean, safe, green and active.”
