A ‘SEXUAL predator’ who targeted a young man with learning difficulties has been sentenced to 13 years in prison.

Deukumar Limbu, of Salisbury Road, Reading, was convicted after a trial at Reading Crown Court in relation to an attack on a 22-year-old man in June 2018.

In the early hours of June 6, the victim approached Limbu and asked for directions home, after he became separated from his friends on a night out in the town centre.

The 43-year-old took advantage and dragged him into the nearby Beresford Road Playground before performing a series sex acts without consent.

Limbu will serve half of his sentence in the community with an extended licence period of three years.

In her sentencing remarks, district judge Campbell described him as ‘calculated’ and Limbu remained adamant on the day of his sentencing that it had been consensual.

The judge said: “You came across as someone who was embarrassed about having to give evidence about your sexuality.

“That is in stark contrast to what you are. You are a sexual predator, who would walk the streets of Reading in the early hours in the hope of coming across someone who you could have sex with in a public place.

“You targeted a young man who was less likely to resist or make a complaint.

“He found himself alone in the streets. He had been separated from his friends and was lost without his telephone or money.

“He [Limbu] was appearing to lead a double life, between his home life and the one he acted out.

“The pre-sentence report makes it very clear that he has no remorse whatsoever.”

The victim has suffered from flashbacks and nightmares following the ordeal, which featured unprotected sex after he had asked Limbu to stop.

Limbu, assisted by a Nepalese interpreter, was convicted of one count of sexual assault, two counts of anal rape and one of oral rape.

The judge praised the victim’s bravery in being able to give evidence and Limbu was captured on CCTV footage.

In a prepared statement to the police, Limbu insisted that the victim had consented to the activity and remained remorseless throughout the trial.

He was charged two days after the attack and was remanded in custody.

Colin McCarraher, mitigating, said Limbu had led an honest life up until middle age and took an ‘inexplicable’ turn by committing these offences.

He added: “He has a 17-year-old son and a wife who was with him until 2017 when she went back to Hong Kong.

“He had not gone off the rails for anything, let alone for rape.”

The judge said he presented a serious risk to other young males and noted his lack of remorse as an aggravating factor when passing sentence.
