A new recycling initiative is being introduced to residents of Bracknell, Reading and Wokingham encouraging them to recycle aluminium foil.

The new aluminium for recycling promotion has been launched by the waste management partnership Re3.

The campaign reminds residents that clean aluminium foil trays can now be recycled. Other metal packaging such as clean food and drink cans, tins and empty aerosols can also be recycled.

The reminder arrives just in time for Christmas where a huge amount of foil is used including mince pie cases, turkey roasting trays and lids found on dairy products.

A joint statement from Reading, Bracknell and Wokingham Council said: “We are thrilled to be able to offer the aluminium foil recycling service at the kerbside and it’s important to promote it to residents of Bracknell Forest, Reading and Wokingham Boroughs.

An average household can expect to use 182 foil trays and 144 metres of household wrapping foil each year and when you consider that we have 179,000 households across the area, you begin to realise just how much foil is out there available for recycling.”

Re3 have teamed up with local take-away outlets to strengthen the message that residents can also recycle takeaway lids.

Residents across the Berkshire Boroughs are encouraged to send in photos of their foil trays in their recycling bins.

Rick Hindley, Executive Director at Alupro, added: “With Christmas and New Year fast-approaching it’s the ideal time for people to get into the habit of recycling aluminium foil and we are glad that local takeaway outlets have agreed to help deliver this message to the re3 residents.”

Residents can share their photos by using #re3takeaway and posting it to Re3’s social media channels.
