FOLLOWING the Christmas lights switch-on last weekend, Reading is hosting a number of festive events over the coming weeks.

This weekend, The Magical Christmas programme will be starting with a free family show on Saturday and a festive art Market on Sunday on Broad Street.

The programme will continue throughout December with free pop-up events in the town centre.

It will include comedy, theatre performances and choirs. There will also be puppet shows and a pantomime during December at Reading Station.

Councillor Debs Edwards, the Mayor of Reading, said: “Christmas is a wonderful time of year and I can think of no more magical place to spend it than Reading.

"The town centre will be alive with fun activities and free entertainment for all the family to enjoy, so there is no reason not to come for the shopping and stay for the day.”

The series of events have been funded by Reading Business Improvement District and supported by the Reading Borough Council.
