The council has been given a chunk of £700,000 in order to connect residents with their communities.

Bracknell Forest Council (BFC) was just one of nine councils from across the country chosen to receive a grant, and will use this money to fund screens displaying information on local clubs to reach out to socially isolated residents.

Lisa McNally, Director of Public Health at Bracknell Forest Council said: “Bracknell Forest has a thriving range of community groups that enable residents to try new things and meet new people.

“The information we have on these groups is constantly being updated, meaning residents can access the latest information.”

The council is set to use its £50,000 funding to invest in interactive digital displays around Bracknell Forest, with the locations of the displays set to be announced soon.

The screens will enable residents to explore a variety of community groups on offer locally, from walking groups and gardening clubs, to choirs, games or craft clubs and support groups.

Ms McNally continued: “These new interactive displays will enable people without internet access at home to find out about groups in their local area that may interest them, helping to combat the social isolation felt by so many.”

The funding comes from NHS Digital and the Local Government Association’s Social Care Digital Innovation Programme (SCDIP).

This is the second time the council has been awarded money from the scheme, having seen £20,000 come its way in June to fund its ‘Warm Welcome’ programme which helps to give more social support for adults with learning disabilities.

Councillor Dale Birch, Executive Member for Adult Services, Health and Housing, said: “The insights we gained from residents allowed us to develop a really exciting proposal which will help us to meet their needs and I’m delighted it has gained the backing of NHS Digital and the Local Government Association.

“This funding will allow us to bring the idea to life; bringing information on all Bracknell Forest has to offer to residents in a simple, accessible way which will connect more people with their community.”
