A SUSPECT has been charged after a woman was attacked with a blade during what police believe was an attempted murder.

The victim, a 50-year-old woman, was hit several times, causing her to suffer serious injuries to her head.

The incident took place at around 4.30pm on October 31 at an address on Rhine Close, Caversham.

The offender fled the scene following the attack.

Luke Mackrory, of Lockside Court, Mallard Way, Aldermaston, has been charged with one count of attempted murder.

Mackrory, 27, appeared at Reading Magistrates' Court on November 3 and was remanded to appear at Reading Crown Court on December 3. 

Police hope to hear from anyone who may have witnessed the attack.

The victim was taken to hospital for treatment where she remains in a stable condition.

Detective inspector Dave Turton, of Reading Force CID, said: “I understand that this incident will have caused concern in the community, but I would like to reassure the public that we are carrying out a full investigation into this offence.

“The offender and the victim are known to each other and this was an isolated incident.

“People in the area might see an increased police presence while our investigation takes place.

“This incident happened in rush hour in a busy residential area and we believe that there is a good chance that a number of people witnessed it.
