A MOTORIST who hit a marked police car before running away from the scene.

At around 12.40pm on October 29, a silver Peugeot 106 was asked to pull over by officers in a marked car in the car park of Tesco Extra, Pinchington Lane, Newbury.

The driver failed to stop and hit the marked police car and continued through the car park and tried to exit by mounting the pavement and drove into a bollard.

The driver and passenger of the car then got out of the vehicle and ran away.

Investigating officers would like to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident, or may have dash-cam footage.

A 25 year-old man from Reading was arrested on suspicion of failing to stop, failing to stop at the scene of an accident, dangerous driving, driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence and possession of criminal property.

He has since been released under investigation.

Police constable Oliver Perry-Smith, based at Newbury police station, said: “I would like to speak to anyone who may have witnessed the incident or who may have been driving through the area at that time and has dash-cam footage.
