A RIBBON cutting ceremony was held to mark the grand opening of a new development designed for over 55s.

The Birches Independent Living Scheme was opened by the Mayor of Woodley, councillor Sam Rahmouni, on October 12.

Housing Solutions hosted the official opening of the development, which features 60 one and two-bedroom apartments for social rent and shared ownership.

It was recently nominated for the Sunday Times British Home Awards in the Best Community Living category.

James Goldring, of CALA Homes, said: “We are creating a new community in Woodley with homes for every type of buyer at our Parklands development.

"The Birches will play an integral part of that offering, providing 60 purpose built apartments and extra care facilities specifically for the over 55s.

"It will allow older generations to live with independence, privacy and security but with peace of mind that help is on hand if needed."

The apartments are fully self-contained giving residents the independence of their own home but the confidence that 24 care is on site should they need it.

The scheme will benefit from an onsite restaurant, hairdressers and day room which will host regular resident activities.
