THE Great Burnham Sack Race attracted 66 residents on Saturday - and they certainly filled those sacks.

The 'race' was actually about keeping Burnham tidy and villagers were invited to turn up and collect as much litter as they could in two hours.

A total of 95 bags of rubbish were collected.

Burnham Parish Council clerk Sheridan Jacklin-Edward, who organised the event with Cllr Paula Prince said: "It was a fantastic day, and we were really happy with the outcome – 66 residents got together and collected 95 bags of rubbish in just two hours. We’re also very grateful to Tesco at the Bishop Centre who put together a team and gave us refreshments; Hungry Pets on Burnham High Street who gave us dog waste bags and refreshments; and Yasmin Stewart and the Waste and Recycling Team at South Bucks District Council who collected all the rubbish.

"This was our second Great Burnham Sack Race and we’ll be arranging our next one for the spring."
