A FATHER who was convicted of murdering his baby boy has been sentenced to more than 20 years in prison.

Daniel McLaren, of Fleetwood Close, Thatcham, was found guilty by unanimous jury following a two-week trial at Reading Crown Court on Friday.

During his sentencing on Monday, the 30-year-old was told he had broken the 'ultimate responsibility' by shaking and killing his four-month-old son.

Following the sentencing, an NSPCC spokesman said: “Jack was a vulnerable baby boy who had his life tragically cut short at the hands of the very man who should have been loving and protecting him.

“Babies and young children are entirely dependent on those who care for them and we all have a responsibility to look out for their welfare.

“It’s vital that anyone with concerns about a child reports it. They can call the NSPCC Helpline confidentially on 0808 800 5000.”
