HEROES who go above and beyond the call of duty were celebrated at a commendation ceremony.

Various awards were presented to police officers, as well as members of the public, to recognise the contribution they make to the community.

Some of the work celebrated on the evening (October 3) included efforts to reduce the exploitation of children in county drug lines and protecting vulnerable people.

Superintendent Stan Gilmour, Reading's local police area commander, said: “I am extremely proud to be able to recognise the outstanding hard work and achievements by those I work alongside and members of the public.

“The awards that have been presented this evening show the pride and responsibility that people take on in their role within the community of Reading and I would like to say thank you to them all.”

Zach Rowe and Nicola Henderson were commended for their part in a larger team that seized a large quantity of drugs with an estimated value of £20,000 and over £30,000 in cash.

This resulted in over 25 years’ in custodial sentences for those involved in supplying drugs.

Police constables Charlotte Allen and Kelly Doward were commended for the first aid they administered to a victim of a serious road traffic accident, who suffered a serious head injury, whilst managing the scene.

And police constable Colin Morris was commended for his part in administering life-saving CPR after a motorway accident, despite being in a highly challenging and dangerous situation.

Emem Adegbola was commended for consistently demonstrating the force principle of taking pride in delivering a high quality service. His hard work has resulted in a number of positive outcomes for the public.

Members of the public were also recognised for their actions, including saving lives and bringing offenders to justice.

Neil Jones and Luke Stabler were commended for working alongside officers to provide life-saving first aid to a man suffering from a heart attack. Due to their actions, he made a full recovery.

David Howard was commended for jumping into the River Kennet and saving a woman from her sinking car.

Patryk Orlowski was commended for demonstrating the force principles of honesty and integrity in identifying and locating an offender who was driving whilst uninsured and committing vehicle fraud.
