TALENTED singers celebrated half a century of hitting the right note with a celebration dinner.

Members of Woodley Light Operatic Society (WLOS) marked the club's 50th anniversary by gathering at Coronation Hall.

Old and new faces of the society were reunited for a chance to reminisce about memorable performances over the last five decades.

WLOS was formed in 1968 when Barbara Rust put an advert into the newspaper, hoping to form a new local society.

Julie Easton, a member of the society, said: "People have always been at the heart of WLOS.

"The backstage crew, lighting team, front of house managers, photographers, props and costume teams are all an integral part of every show.

"Loyal audiences come back repeatedly, showing that they must enjoy the shows."

Several past society members were invited back to perform songs that they had sung in shows with the society to the delight of the audience.

Awards were also handed out to mark the contribution of the society's stalwarts.

Keith Bosley, who joined in 1976, was recognised with a Lifetime Achievement Award.

He celebrated his 40-year association with the society two years ago by raffling his services as a garden landscaper.

Other members of the society were presented with National Operatic and Dramatic Association (NODA) awards on the evening.

The NODA is a national charity for amateur theatre societies and awards were presented to a number of people for their dedication.

WLOS celebrations finish in December with an anniversary show ‘50 Musical Years’ – a cabaret show filled with songs from the shows they have staged over the last 50 years – at The Oakwood Centre in Woodley from December 4-8.
