POLICE have concluded their efforts to trace the identity of a young girl after she was spotted alone in the streets in the early hours.

Officers were called to Woodley at around 5am on Saturday, following reports of an unaccompanied child.

It was reported that a girl, aged approximately five years of age, was spotted on her own on Woodlands Avenue, Woodley.

She was seen in her dressing gown by residents and police launched an urgent appeal for more information.

As of 7.20pm on Saturday, Thames Valley Police officially ended their main search enquiries.

A spokesman said: "Following earlier reports of an unaccompanied child in Woodley, officers have concluded their main search enquiries.

"Officers carried out significant search activity in the area and spoke to members of the community however no children with welfare concerns were identified.

"We believe that it does not appear that the young child is in any danger or still outside alone.

"There have been no reports of similarly aged missing children across Berkshire today and no further sightings of a child as described alone, other than those at 5am.

"We are not treating the reports as malicious, would like to thank the public who brought it to our attention."
