FANTASTIC floral masterpieces have been recognised through the annual Newbury in Bloom competition.

Councillor Margo Payne, the Mayor of Newbury, presented six worthy winners with their awards after dozens of entries were received.

St John the Evangelist CE Nursery & Infant School won first prize in the Schools and Colleges category, while Carnarvon Place Gardening Club won the community project accolade.

Councillor Sarah Greenall, chair of the working group, said: “This is now our third year since renewing the campaign. We really felt that Newbury is now starting to see the benefits from this campaign and that this summer our town looked really good.

“We are so pleased that we have had so many enthusiastic entries and the standard was fabulous. It was very hard to choose the winners as everyone did such a great job.”
