A CWMBRAN trader has been caught selling fake hand bags and luggage.

Rakesh Kumar was selling a range of fakes from his shop trading as “Luggage and Bags” in the Cwmbran Centre.

Fake brands on offer included Radley, Liverpool Football Club, Simpsons and Minions.

Mr Kumar was caught following an investigation by trading standards.

He pleaded guilty to offences under the Trade Marks Act 1994 at a hearing in Newport Magistrates Court on September 13 2018.

He was fined £1,000 and made to pay a £30 victim surcharge and other costs of £1,750.

Councillor Fiona Cross, who is the executive member with responsibility for public protection, said: “The sale of fake goods is a serious criminal offence which undermines legitimate businesses.

"Fake goods can be inferior quality and even unsafe, and people caught selling them risk a heavy fine or a prison sentence. They can also have their financial affairs investigated.

“We work hard to tackle the sale of fake items in Torfaen and Blaenau Gwent and I would urge anyone with information to contact us.”
