A FIRST World War tank, a dustbin and a replica Porsche all battled it out to be crowned the winner of the Royal Berks Charity Soapbox Derby last weekend.

Ten teams entered the challenge, which was held at the Englefield Estate, near Theale.

Their home-made soapboxes raced down a course littered with ramps, bends and obstacles, all to raise money for the charity.

The best designed entry went to the popular Bin and Gon team, with Team Ben Hiscock picking up first place in the Junior and Senior events.

A spokesman for the charity said: "A big thank you must go to the entrants, for putting on such a daring display - and also to the teams behind the design and build of the Soapboxes.

"Many thanks to Englefield Estate, for allowing the event to take place again, and who kindly supplied the straw this year. A big thank you to all the volunteers who gave up their time to help, the event couldn't take place without them."
