A WOMAN has been jailed for 14 months after tricking an elderly lady and taking money from her handbag.
Billie Hill, of Jimmy Green Court, Coronation Square, was sentenced at Reading Crown Court after admitting to one count of burglary.
At some time between 7pm and 10pm on February 1, Hill tricked the victim in order to get entry into her property on Bath Road, Reading, and then took money from her handbag while she was distracted.
The 29-year-old was charged on July 12.
Detective constable Nick Packham, of the Investigation Hub at Reading police station, said: “Billie Hill was attempting to obtain money from a number of addresses along the Bath Road in February this year.
"She had come to this particular property on two occasions and on the second took advantage of the victim’s trust.
“She has pleaded guilty due to the overwhelming evidence against her.
"I would like to thank everyone involved including the victim and the surrounding community for their continued support throughout the investigation.
“Thames Valley Police takes offences of burglary very seriously and will robustly investigate and prosecute offenders.”
